Responsible Breeder Standards
Ethical Breeder
Hellobreeder supports responsible breeding practices that prioritize the health, welfare, and long-term well-being of animals. Responsible breeders play an important role in preserving breeds, maintaining genetic health, and placing animals in suitable homes.
The standards below outline the general principles Hellobreeder encourages breeders on the platform to follow.
Health Testing
Responsible breeders complete appropriate health testing for their breed before breeding. Health testing helps reduce the risk of inherited conditions and supports healthier future generations.
This should include:
• Breed-specific genetic testing
• Veterinary health screenings
• Orthopedic or structural evaluations when recommended for the breed
Breeders should be transparent about health testing and be willing to share results with potential owners.
Breeding to Breed Standards
Responsible breeders strive to maintain the established standards for their breed. These standards help preserve the structure, temperament, and working ability that define each breed.
These breeders may participate in activities such as:
• Conformation shows
• Performance or working events
• Breed evaluations or other activities that demonstrate the quality of their breeding program
Participation in these activities reflects a breeder’s commitment to maintaining the integrity and purpose of the breed.
Responsible Placement
Responsible breeders carefully place animals in homes that are suitable for the breed and individual animal. This process often includes screening potential homes, answering questions, and providing guidance to ensure the animal is placed in an appropriate environment.
Responsible placement practices may include:
• Screening all potential owners to ensure a good match for the animal and breed
• Providing written contracts that outline expectations for care and ownership
• Spay and neuter agreements when appropriate
• Return or take-back policies if an owner is no longer able to care for the animal
• Providing lifetime support and guidance to new owners after placement
Responsible breeders remain a resource for the life of the animal whenever possible and work to ensure that animals they produce are placed in safe and responsible homes.
Transparency
Responsible breeders are open about their breeding program and practices. This includes providing information about:
• Health testing
• Breeding goals
• The care and environment in which animals are raised
Transparency helps build trust between breeders and the community.
Commitment to Animal Welfare
Above all, responsible breeders prioritize the welfare of their animals. Animals should be raised in safe, healthy environments where they receive proper care, socialization, and veterinary attention.
Breeding decisions should always prioritize the long-term health and well-being of the animals.
Promoting Better Breeding Practices
One of the goals of Hellobreeder is to help educate the animal community about what responsible breeding looks like.
By highlighting responsible breeding practices and setting positive examples, the platform hopes to encourage higher standards within the breeding community. Education and transparency help both breeders and the public better understand the importance of health testing, proper care, breed standards, and responsible placement.
Rather than focusing on criticism, Hellobreeder aims to support breeders who strive to improve their programs and learn more about responsible practices. By sharing knowledge and promoting responsible breeding, the platform hopes to help reduce poor breeding practices and encourage better outcomes for animals.
Through education, transparency, and community support, Hellobreeder works to promote responsible animal care and a stronger, more informed animal community.
Breeders and Rescues
Hellobreeder recognizes that both responsible breeders and rescue organizations play important roles in the animal community.
Responsible breeders work to preserve breeds, maintain genetic health, and produce animals with predictable temperament, structure, and working ability. Rescue organizations provide critical support by helping animals in need find safe and loving homes.
Both breeders and rescues contribute to the welfare of animals in different ways. Hellobreeder was created to provide a space where breeders, rescues, pet professionals, and animal lovers can come together, share knowledge, and support responsible animal care.
The platform encourages respectful discussion and education within the community. Harassment, hostility, or hate directed toward breeders, rescues, or any members of the community will not be tolerated.
Platform Standards
Hellobreeder is committed to promoting responsible animal care and ethical breeding practices.
Breeding practices that prioritize profit over the health, welfare, and well-being of animals do not align with the standards of the platform. Breeding practices that are harmful to animal welfare or clearly demonstrate irresponsible breeding standards are not permitted on Hellobreeder.
Programs that demonstrate irresponsible or harmful breeding practices may be reviewed and removed from the platform.
The goal of Hellobreeder is to promote transparency, education, and higher standards within the animal community while encouraging responsible breeding practices and proper animal care.
Reporting Concerns
Hellobreeder encourages members to help maintain a safe and responsible community.
If you come across a member or listing that appears to violate platform standards or demonstrate irresponsible practices, please report it. On each post and listing you will see three dots in the top right corner where you can submit a report.
Reports allow the Hellobreeder team to review the situation and take appropriate action when necessary.
If a member is repeatedly reported by multiple users for violating platform standards, their account may be reviewed and removed from the platform.
Community reporting helps protect the platform and ensures that members who do not follow responsible standards can be addressed.
